Engaged research: meeting associations in Liège
The UNIC team took part in the "Erasmus+" Project Fair organised by Le Monde des possibles, an association based in Liège whose aim was to create a network of local players working on projects with similar objectives.
Various projects with the Erasmus+ label were presented at the event, which was a great opportunity for the members of the UNIC coordination team at ULiège to discover the work carried out by the associations present, but also to establish links with them. At a time when UNIC 2.0 is being launched, it is essential to explore possible synergies with other projects and initiatives being carried out in the Liège region, in order to further develop their impact and promote engaged research.
The challenges of tomorrow
Through 'Engaged Research', UNIC 2.0 will build on the foundations of the first part of the project, with researchers from the alliance looking at the challenges faced by UNIC's post-industrial member cities (Bilbao, Bochum, Cork, Istanbul, Oulu, Rotterdam, Zagreb, Liège, Malmö and Lodz). These challenges include youth employment, the impact of new technologies, the transition to renewable energy sources and the evolution of health-related challenges. The UNIC network aims to promote the role of these universities as players in the social, technological and economic transition, and as drivers of inclusion in regions characterised by the superdiversity of their populations.
Acting locally
Le Monde des Possibles develops civic initiatives in the field of cultural action, French language teaching and awareness-raising to combat inequality and all forms of exclusion. As part of their Erasmus+ Day, members of the association presented their various social economy initiatives across Europe. Le Monde des Possibles is also developing a number of projects that bring together people who would never have met each other spontaneously to carry out joint actions to promote better intercultural understanding.
