What are Open Online Courses (OOC)?
One of UNIC's main objectives is to promote new ways of enabling student mobility within the network's 10 universities. In this case, fully virtual mobility.
OOCs are courses given entirely online - including certification - and free of charge. The courses are given in English for the most part, and sometimes in the language of the universities.
They are listed in an online catalog that can be consulted by everyone. The catalogue features both general and interdisciplinary courses, as well as more specialized courses on subjects less developed at our university. Topics covered include genetics, management techniques, the history of political science, Asian literature and even Norse mythology.

Why take the OOC as a student at the Université de Liège?
Above all, it's a free opportunity for you to discover a new subject, without registration fees or the need to draw up a new Erasmus agreement. You can discover new teaching and assessment methods. These online courses are also a way of discovering a subject you've already mastered, but through another approach, from the prism of another culture. If you're interested in a future Erasmus stay at a UNIC university, it's also a way of familiarizing yourself with the environment of the institution in question.
If your faculty allows it, it is possible to integrate these courses into your official study program. There are two possible scenarios:
- If you are a bachelor's or master's student and have identified a course that you would like to include in your annual study program (PAE), contact the UNIC team (via Sylvain Marbehant) to find out whether your faculty's study regulations allow this. If this is the case, you will need to inform your jury president when you draw up your annual program at the beginning of the academic year. You can also take and pass an online course during the academic year, and include it in your EAP for the following year.
- If you are a post-graduate student (doctorate) and are looking for training activities to be credited towards your doctoral training, you will need to obtain your promoter's agreement on the advisability of taking an OOC and have these credits validated by your annual support committee.
How do you register for an OOC?
Regardless of whether or not you value an OOC in your program of study, you must first register on the UNIC virtual campus.
- Register on the virtual campus by following these instructions.
- Once registration is active, browse the catalog and choose the course you're interested in.
- You will then be able to contact the host university and the course instructor.
Once you have successfully completed the course, UNIC will provide you with a certificate of attendance and completion. For universities that allow it, a digital newsletter may also be available.
For UNIC students wishing to take online courses at ULiège
The University of Liège offers online courses to UNIC students. The first step is to register on the UNIC Virtual Campus using the following instructions.
Once registered, from the list of courses, apply for the course you are interested in via “Apply”. You will then receive an email from the UNIC team outlining the local registration procedure. In particular, you will be asked to:
- Obtain email approval from the course's professor;
- Register as a visiting student at our university;
